In the US alone, over $64 billion is wasted every year on construction rework (FMI/Autodesk, 2023) and a massive percentage of that stems directly from uncoordinated drawings. For decades, the industry has accepted manual QA/QC as the cost of doing business. We built MarkedUp to change that baseline forever.
The Origin of MarkedUp
The idea for MarkedUp did not start in a boardroom; it started with a single, painful error.
In 2023, my brother-in-law, Harry, was completing his engineering cadetship. During a project, he missed a critical detail - an error that occurred while he was using the exact same manual review processes I had used back in 2008.
Over fifteen years had passed, the world had been revolutionized by technology, yet the tools we relied on to protect millions of dollars in construction margins had not progressed at all. Precon teams were still relying on highlighters and human fatigue.
I realized that if we did not automate the most grueling aspects of drawing review, these errors would never stop. After intensive R&D to bridge the gap between complex architectural geometry and AI, MarkedUp was born.
